Jason and I were laughing on the drive over about drinks we’ve never tried. He mentioned he’d never actually had a martini — like a true James Bond moment. And I admitted my only “martini” experience was something a friend mixed at a party that let’s just say…wasn’t my style. But I told him I’d absolutely try one with him, especially somewhere with a real bar.

A Night Out at Yuzu Rockwall

We tossed around restaurant ideas, but we kept coming back to wanting something we could walk to, something cozy but still elevated, special without being stuffy. That’s when Yuzu Rockwall came to mind. Tucked right along the waterfront between City Suites & Spa and Sears Steakhouse, Yuzu is one of those places you can almost overlook — until you step inside and realize it’s a full-on Japanese culinary gem with gorgeous modern design.

The Vibe & Atmosphere

The moment we walked in, I was already charmed. Lemon trees, modern décor, beautiful place settings — everything felt intentional. Cloth napkins, sleek sauce dishes, a little dish accessory just for your chopsticks. It was all meticulously placed. After each course, the plates were cleared and refreshed, setting the stage for whatever came next. It’s those little touches that make a place feel elevated.

The space works for literally any occasion: date night, girls’ night, family dinner, or a treat-yourself moment.

Our server, Audrey, was fantastic. She asked what flavors we liked, pointed out dishes on the menu, and described everything in a way that made the ingredients feel exciting instead of intimidating. The music was upbeat but never too loud — perfect for conversation without ever needing to lean across the table.

The Martini Moment

Since we arrived during Happy Hour (a win already), we asked for a cocktail recommendation. Audrey immediately suggested the Lychee Elderflower Martini — and with the martini conversation we’d had on the way in, we couldn’t help but laugh at the timing.

It wasn’t the classic James Bond martini, and honestly…I’m thankful.
It was refreshing, lightly floral, and just sweet enough. The lychee garnish felt luxurious — like a cross between pear and melon — and made the whole drink feel special.

From the regular drink menu, I ordered the Cucumber Martini (which may be a rotating or off-menu option). Light, botanical, incredibly refreshing — I’d absolutely order it again.

These cocktails photographed beautifully, and they tasted even better.

Smoked Yellowtail to Start

Our first dish was unforgettable: Smoked Yellowtail with yuzu ponzu, orange segments, serrano, and cilantro.

It arrived under a glass dome filled with smoke. Audrey lifted it, and the aroma drifted up — citrus, warmth, that subtle smokiness that makes you pause before your first bite. The flavors were perfectly balanced: sweet, tangy, bright, the crunch of serrano adding the slightest heat. It was the kind of dish that makes you say, “Okay, we’re definitely coming back.”

The Rolls: Fresh, Beautiful, and Easy to Love

We ordered a few of Yuzu’s specialty rolls, and every single one was plated with style and tasted incredibly fresh. Instead of directing readers to one specific roll, I’d genuinely recommend asking your server for suggestions — that’s how we found some of our favorites.

Each roll felt like its own little work of art, and the sushi chefs behind the bar made the experience even more fun to watch.

Dessert or Final Sips

We skipped dessert and opted for one more cocktail — the perfect ending to a relaxed, happy evening.

Service & Experience

The service really impressed us. Water glasses were topped off regularly, cocktails arrived quickly, and the pacing of the meal was just right. We were early, so the restaurant had a mix of couples, families, and a few people at the bar. We were seated along the bench area with a great view of the dining room, the bar, and the wall of windows overlooking the harbor.

It felt warm, attentive, relaxed — everything you hope date night will be.
