From the moment we arrived, it was clear why The Porch Pour has become such a beloved spot for those looking to slow down and enjoy a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Housed inside a beautifully restored Victorian home with European-inspired flair, this is the kind of place that invites you to linger—whether you’re sipping wine, catching up with family, or simply enjoying the setting.

A Relaxing First Impression

We didn’t have reservations on this particular Saturday afternoon, but the weather was perfect. So, our party of six opted to sit outside in The Conservatory, the restaurant’s main outdoor gathering space.

Designed as a greenhouse-style veranda, it turned out to be the ideal choice. Comfortable seating, ceiling fans keeping the breeze moving, and dramatic iron candle chandeliers created an effortlessly relaxing environment. Even the weighty water glasses felt right at home, adding to the Southern charm of the experience.

Although we were able to enjoy a walk-in visit, reservations are a good idea—especially for weekends or larger groups.

Inside, the experience continues with the same sense of warmth and character. Meanwhile, the home features several cozy rooms with comfortable seating, each offering its own distinct character. Part of the fun is that not all of the room names are listed publicly. Instead, guests are encouraged to inquire and discover them for themselves.

For example, there’s a subtle, playful nod to classic games like Clue, with spaces such as The Library Room, designed as an intimate, clue-inspired dining area. Overall, it’s a thoughtful detail that makes the experience feel layered and personal.

A stunning wooden staircase anchors the interior, with a chandelier cascading halfway down, while the bar, tables, and modern-chic furnishings strike a balance between historic elegance and contemporary comfort. It’s the kind of space that makes you appreciate what thoughtful restoration can do—and yes, we’re already planning to come back for brunch.

Warm Service That Elevates the Experience

From the start, the service made us feel genuinely welcomed. The hostess greeted us warmly and presented leather-bound menus—a small but thoughtful touch that set the tone. While the wine list didn’t include detailed descriptions (something my inner wine nerd usually loves), our waitress Savanna stepped in seamlessly. She graciously shared her own reference sheet so I could better understand each wine option, which ultimately helped me choose the perfect flight. That kind of attentiveness goes a long way.

Tina, one of the managers, also stopped by our table to check in and offer recommendations, ensuring we had a relaxed and enjoyable experience from beginning to end.

Drinks Worth Savoring

With our annual family Christmas dinner coming up that evening, we kept our visit focused on drinks—but the menu alone gives us plenty of reason to return.

Our table sampled a mix of wine flights, cocktails, and mocktails, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared.

Two of my nieces ordered Espresso Martinis, which they both agreed they would happily order again. This classic cocktail—made with vodka, coffee liqueur, and fresh espresso—had a rich coffee flavor and that signature frothy top that makes it feel both indulgent and energizing.

We also tried the Debutante Mocktail, a refreshing blend of lemon, orange-clove, cranberry, raspberry, soda, and mint. It was bright, well-balanced, and a great option for anyone looking for something festive without alcohol.

If you don’t immediately see a wine flight listed on the menu, be sure to ask—guests can select four wines to create their own tasting experience.

Wines We Sampled

• Archetype Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand): Light and refreshing with subtle lychee notes; a great pairing for herb-forward dishes and cheeses.
• Cline Sauvignon Blanc (Northern California Coast): Smooth with hints of lime and melon on the palate.
• Arrowflite Chardonnay (California): Rich and complex, ideal for those who enjoy fruit-forward whites with a touch of spice.
• Perelada Brut Rosé (Spain): A dry sparkling wine—crisp rather than sweet.
• Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Australia): A bold red from one of South Australia’s most renowned wine regions.
• Blue Rock Blend (Sonoma, California): Spiced cherry notes with depth and character.

Events, Specials & Reasons to Return

The Porch Pour offers a rotating calendar of events and specials that make it easy to plan repeat visits. Highlights include:

• Special Event Menus, such as a New Year’s dinner featuring a three-course meal and dessert, plus a complimentary glass of champagne.
• Un-Wine’d Book Club (January and beyond): Held every second Thursday of the month at 7 pm in The Lounge, featuring 15% off wines, great food, book discussions, and games.

    – $5 off mixed well drinks on Sundays

A Historic Home with a New Purpose

The Porch Pour is located in the historic William Hosford House, originally built in 1894 and affectionately known as “The Pink Lady.” Once situated in Waxahachie, this two-story Victorian home was carefully moved to Founders Row in Midlothian and thoughtfully restored in 2020.

The renovation preserved its stately character—wrap-around veranda, detailed woodwork, hardwood floors, hand-crafted staircase, high-peaked gables, and decorative finials—while adding modern amenities, including a covered porch designed for al fresco dining. The result is a space that honors its past while offering a fresh, inviting destination for today’s guests.

Why It’s Worth the Visit

The best way to experience The Porch Pour is firsthand. Between the farm-to-table dining, fine wines, craft beers, hand-crafted cocktails, and genuinely warm service, it’s a place that feels both special and comfortable—perfect for a wine tasting, casual gathering, or relaxed afternoon outing.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience in Midlothian, this is one to add to your list.
