Welcome to my office! It has a great view of hands on activity.
As an entrepreneur, I have the privilege to enjoy working from home and be present with my children. I wanted to share a bit about that and to encourage you that you are enough.
Eats and Treats
On weekday mornings, I serve my children a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs topped with cheese and a dollop of sour cream. An assortment of fruit like a strawberry, blueberries and a banana with a side of grape jam spread on buttered toast. They prefer ice cold water over orange juice. But they would definitely would drink chocolate milk if they had a choice. My husband Jason, would serve them waffles topped with real maple syrup, bacon and/or eggs with breakfast sausage on the weekends.
How’s the meal planning going?
We started doing meal planning on Sundays to execute weekly for lunches and dinners. Unfortunately, our kids are not exactly going with some of the dishes that we are creating at this time. So we are having to go back to some usual eats that we have been trying to get away from. Frozen nuggets and hotdogs.
For treats, in the afternoon they enjoy apple slices, muffins, chips, cheese, crackers or chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes they get two items.
Jason and I don’t normally eat together during the week. Mainly, because of his workout and work schedule. Although, on the weekends we do. He has been doing well in bringing a lunch to work. Rather than eating out with his buddies.
When I prepare my breakfast it’s always after my kids are settled with theirs. My breakfast normally includes vegetables like cherry grape tomato, mushroom, spinach in my eggs with a sliced meat topped with Valentina hot sauce, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream. And hopefully an avocado –if they are ripe. I use a French press for coffee with heavy whipping cream and topped with a squirt of whip cream.
Work & Kid Play
Our day can be filled with physical engagement. My kids love rides on my shoulder and being able to touch the ceiling or peak over the tops of shelves and be goofy in front of a mirror.
Somedays I wish I opted for a bigger chair so that they can pile on top of me during story time much easier. Reading dramatically is fun to them. Sometimes we reread the books quite a number of times. Books don’t really last long in our home since my daughters have entered our world. So there has been 2nd or 3rd replacement books that we may have lost to their fun acts. Here is a quick short list and quite a number of others that I am forgetting: The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, One fish, Two fish and The Tooth Book.
We watch funny shorts like Forky Asks a Question on Disney+. There are some rhyming type of episodes that we watch to a kid adventure type of movies. Have you heard of Pete the Cat?
January has been one of those months that is not exactly fun for our kids to be outside. Our backyard is soggy for long periods so they can’t utilize our swing set. Which is on our home improvement list to create a functional outdoor living space.
We Get Artsy!
Sometimes we paint. Like these seaside creatures that I have now displayed in my master bath.
There are a few coloring and marker activities that I do with my kids as well. It helps to have some coloring books, but I have lost the expectation to get them to color inside the lines.
We also use a chalk board where we play a kid version of pictionary or they use the chalk to practice the alphabet or numbers.
Go Fish, dominos, and chess are just a few games that I have managed to play with them. Of course I feel like I am playing myself x4, because I may have to help them keep their focus on waiting on another to make a decision or help move along the game.
Other times, my work out is chasing them for an impromptu game of tag or hide and go seek. Getting on their level and rolling on the ground for a tickle fest. It’s pretty special to see their smiley faces and hear them giggle with glee.
Depending on the day we take a road trip to the store. Sometimes we get lucky and are able to get the cart that can accommodate two or more children with room to put items in the cart.
Any Plans For Home School?
Vivi and Nic Nic are envious of him. So for Christmas we got them their own backpacks to fix the need for them to stop going through his stuff.
Jason and I switch off when it comes to his homework. If it is crafty I usually help him. If it is Bible related reading, my husband spends time with him on that.
We haven’t really decided our education route. We would like to see them go to a Charter School, but we do have a decent school district.
Finally, if you are wondering whether or not you can manage a home, have children and have a work balance. Yes you can. Don’t let a negative attitude hold you back to manage the lifestyle that you want.
