As of today, we are no longer subscribed to DirecTV. After reviewing our lifestyle, we really do not watch more than 98% of the items in the directory offered. It’s been a long time coming and I’m glad that we did.

In 2016, AT&T offered an introductory offer of $75. I’m sure since it was a new business partnership and they installed in-ground fiber cables in the area. It seemed like a good deal. Then if you remembered to renew your special offer rate. Then you would have the same rate again at $75 a month for another year. It did end and there was no promotional offers the following year and went up to $85 a month. The increases escalated to $150 a month around April 2019.

This would be in addition to having to pay for movies we did want to see which was approximately $5 per rental.

So what are we doing instead of Satellite or Cable?

WE ARE STREAMING through our AT&T internet service. After reviewing popular devices such as Sling, Firesticks, Playstation Vue, etc. We chose to go with Roku.

According to Strategy Analytics Roku is the #1 streaming TV platform in the U.S.

We operate our Roku device where we use Netflix and Hulu to stream. There are a bunch of other features to find shows and movies that we want to watch.

The Roku device cost us approximately $30 that you can pick up at Best Buy.

It comes with a simple remote in pressing the button of the platform you want to use.

The video and audio quality has so far been excellent! We started using Roku in May 2019. We are in the process on determining how to build a digital entertainment system. Which would incorporate our movies and shows in a digital library.

The streaming war has won.
