A Chilly Evening in Cleburne

On a brisk 38-degree evening, we arrived at The Heights Church, eagerly awaiting Tim Hawkins’ “Trying Too Hard Comedy Tour.” As the line began forming an hour and a half before showtime, I glanced at our UBER tickets and wondered about our seating. With UBER tickets in hand, we were set for a special experience.

The VIP Treatment

With only 40 UBER tickets issued for this event, we were assured prime reserved seating. Upon entry at 6:15 PM, we received our $10 merchandise voucher, limited edition concert laminate, and meet-and-greet details. My husband, Jason, quickly picked up another “Complicated Coffee Mug,” along with t-shirts—though we just missed snagging the exclusive pilot show DVD.

A Personal Touch

The Heights Church volunteers, working alongside Tim’s team, were wonderful hosts. They provided refreshments and directed us to our seats, which to our delight, were in the second row, center stage. The church can seat up to 1,200 people, and we even met a couple from Rockwall sitting behind us.

Laughter and Music

As the stage filled with smoke and moody lighting, Tim Hawkins made his entrance, strumming his guitar with eccentric flair. He seamlessly blended parody, original songs, and storytelling—highlighting relatable experiences like the “Old White Man Song” and “Wal-Mart Bag.” His humor about life in Cleburne resonated, particularly his exaggerated take on road signs like “Slow Church Ahead.”

Family and Faith

Throughout the show, Tim shared personal stories and observations, making us laugh until it hurt. Whether impersonating NFL announcers or reimagining the National Anthem in various musical styles, his creativity shone. He even poked fun at his brother’s fitness obsession and shared his own journey of faith, emphasizing the importance of a relationship with God.

An Unforgettable Encounter

After the show, the 40 UBER Fans were escorted to a private room for an exclusive meet-and-greet with Tim. His playful, down-to-earth personality was evident in every photo he took with us, making the experience truly memorable. We also had the pleasure of meeting Kenn Kington, a longtime friend of Tim’s, who helped introduce us to his comedy years ago.

The evening was filled with laughter, connection, and reflection. Tim Hawkins’ humor, grounded in faith and family, left us feeling refreshed and inspired—proof that laughter truly is good for the soul.
