Tropical Bird By Adrienne Balkum
It is a 6×6 watercolor where I used Master’s Touch watercolor paint on acid free paper. The pad that I purchased only has 12 sheets for $6.99 that I picked up from Hobby Lobby.
The progression of blending colors was a bit of a struggle mainly because I used too much water. Lately, I have been taping down the art to avoid the paper curling. I’m considering a different type of watercolor paper to see if it makes a difference.
As I was working in sections some of the colors would blend into a nearby color, because of the curling. Although, it worked out well and I went over it to add textures with a thinner and smaller brush.
Loved how it turned out as this bird perched looking out for a mate to dance for. After watching some Planet Earth documentaries I have learned that many birds have “courtship spectacles.” So I guess I was inspired.
Some birds are not meant to be caged.
