Introduction

Studio McGee isn’t just about creating beautiful homes; they’re about inspiring others to achieve the same aesthetic. Through their television series, Dream Home Makeover, and their best-selling books, Make Life Beautiful and The Art of Home, they provide fans with the tools and guidance to replicate their style. The Tahoe Pines Project by Studio McGee is a prime example of their design philosophy.

Blending Mountain and Lake Aesthetics

In this recent Studio McGee episode featuring the Tahoe Pines Project, Shea McGee introduces a new venture located in Lake Tahoe, aiming to blend mountain and lake aesthetics into a modern vacation home. The clients, long-time fans of Studio McGee, drew inspiration from past projects and Shea’s own home. Collaborating with architects, Shea’s team focused on finishes and furnishings, staying true to the Martis Camp style characterized by natural wood, earth tones, steel accents, and large windows.

Welcoming Entryway and Great Room

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a cozy entryway leading into a vast living, dining, and kitchen space with vaulted ceilings. Architectural details like a wood and beam ceiling separation create a rustic yet sleek transitional style. The great room features a modified fireplace with a sloping design and a large limestone facade, balancing the large windows and adding a cozy, inviting feel. Furniture choices include classic and bold elements, such as olive green chairs and a plaid fabric sofa.

Dining and Kitchen Spaces

In the dining area, symmetrical light fixtures and a console table behind the main sofa create distinct spaces within the open layout. The kitchen showcases a unique combination of warm gray and wood tones with a focus on symmetry, highlighted by details like a flush back wall and a wood-trimmed range area. A Zellige tile backsplash with a ledge and pewter sconces adds character and functionality.

Kitchen Nook and Pantry

The kitchen nook features a green leather banquette with unique stitching, a patterned Roman shade, and a mix of vintage and modern elements. Built-in wet bars with chicken wire details and a modern plate wall niche further enhance the space. The dark pantry adds a surprise element of depth and saturation, while a built-in desk provides a functional drop-off spot.

Laundry Room Details

In the laundry room, Shea incorporates a green cabinetry color, a wood countertop, and a vintage-style sink, bringing life and character to the small, windowless space through thoughtful selections and details.
