I originally created this craft for my daughter’s second-grade Winter Holiday Party. The entire project takes about 10 minutes. If you’re hosting a class party, consider pre-cutting each ribbon to 18 inches to save time and eliminate any guesswork.

Mittens

Mini Stretched Canvas (4×4″)

Paint Markers (ensure they have a brush tip)

Originally, I used the Hello Hobby Dual Tip Paint Brush Set from Walmart, which is fast-drying. If you can’t find this set online, look for a similar product on Amazon. Make sure to use mini stretched canvas rather than canvas panels.

1. Prepare the Canvas:

• Slip one mitten over the top of your mini stretched canvas so the cuff looks like the bottom of a knitted hat.

2. Paint the Snowman’s Face:

• Use the black paint marker to draw circles for the snowman’s eyes.
• Draw an orange carrot nose.
• Add cheeks with pink or red paint marker.
• Use the black paint marker to add five circles forming a smile.
• Sign your name and date on the canvas border.

Note: If a student makes a mistake, don’t stress! These paint markers allow you to go over the error with white paint or another color to correct it.

1. Position the Ribbon:

• After painting the snowman’s face, place one ribbon vertically under the mitten-covered canvas.

2. Tie the Ribbons:

• Take a second ribbon, thread it under the first ribbon, and around the mitten fingers. Tie it tightly in the center.
• Use the vertical ribbon to tie a knot and create a loop for hanging the ornament on a Christmas tree or a nail.
