Rose of Sharon By Adrienne Balkum
It is a 5×5 canvas where I painted with acrylic paint using a palette knife.
I was envisioning a valley that had wild roses just an oasis of redness. During the time of Solomon, one of the largest valley plains there was a place called Sharon somewhere in Palestine that was considered to be majestic and beautiful. It was famous for being a fruitful place for roses. In Song of Solomon I believe God used a visual symbolism of Jesus’ love for us to better see and appreciate that He desires a personal relationship with each and everyone of us. Jesus is perfect love just as the rose is the most perfect of all flowers in it’s beauty and fragrance.
As I sculpted the paint I was remembering how special the love poetry shared in Scripture and the symbolism of the Rose of Sharon. The colors at sunset to the deep warm colors I wanted to express the love of Christ through a visual analogy.
Believers are beautiful, as clothed in the righteousness of Christ and fragrant, as adorned with the graces of His Spirit as they thrive under the refreshing beams of the Sun of righteousness.
This is a kindness project that I’m pursuing to be intentional with my time and gifting these little works to some special people.
