I was curious to try this recipe, especially since I had several limes that needed to be used soon. Plus, I’m always on the lookout for naturally made drinks. I came across a fun reel from Food Dolls, where they shared their story about visiting their aunt in Egypt. It reminded me of my own travels—one time, a hotel concierge offered me a mango-based drink that was an absolute delight. That nostalgic memory made me even more excited to try this one!
This creamy and frothy limonana (Egyptian mint lemonade) is perfect for a small gathering at home. While it’s definitely a summery drink, if you have the limes, there’s no reason to wait—make it anytime!
My Take on Making Limonana
I followed the recipe with one small tweak—I didn’t have fresh mint leaves. Otherwise, I had everything on hand, including a large bag of square ice cubes, so I pulled out my trusty blender and got to work.
After washing the limes, I sliced them to help the blender break them down more efficiently. Then, I added 3 cups of whole milk, cold water, and sugar, blending everything until smooth. To remove the pulp, I poured the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer and used a spatula to press out every last bit of juice.
For serving, I placed square ice cubes into small shot glasses and poured in the limonana. The result? Absolutely delicious!
My husband and kids were wowed by how creamy and refreshing it was. Even my neighbor got a taste, and she was amazed by its unique flavor. It has a smooth, frothy texture with the perfect balance of citrusy tartness and creamy sweetness. You drink it cold, and it’s best enjoyed fresh.
This is definitely a recipe I’ll be making again! Cheers to Food Dolls for sharing their aunt’s special recipe—this was a hit!
