Rockwall County Hispanic Republican Club hosted a meeting where Rebecca Jowers shared her mission to educate anyone on the signs of Human Trafficking and to bring awareness that this modern day slavery is happening right in plain sight. Ms. Jowers is a precious advocate that founded the Poiema Foundation that provides a safe house and support for many of the victims. The foundation partners with law enforcement like Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office to pass along information and most importantly they equip people to work with survivors. Suspected incidents of human trafficking should be reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at: 1-888-373-7888 or TEXT “Be Free” 23 3733.
According to service providers that were interviewed, 70%-90% of Human Trafficking victims have a history of childhood sexual abuse. There is no stereotypical victim, however, many do share one or more characteristics. As Texas ranks 2nd in “reported cases” please consider praying for these victims to find their identity in Christ and restoration. Many of them believe they are unloved and have no value. There are many ways to partner with Poeima and there are many volunteer opportunities too. Check out their website to get involved.
