In our family outdoor outing today we decided to attend Rockwall’s Park and Recreation event at Phelps Lake. August in Texas did not disappoint in the temperatures being a scorcher, but we are thankful that we have shade and water.
Giant Yard Games
My girls have not mastered the art of patience and strategy with these games. This is by far a great idea to have for an outdoor event.
Soccer and Giant Cup Pong
The kids enjoyed a quick game under the shade with kicking the soccer into the net.
Kayak or Canoe
Jason signed a waiver pretty quickly. We clasped on some life jackets and jumped into a canoe. The Park Staff were fantastic in launching us off. The shore had a nice slope for launching and docking.
Our 3 year old daughters didn’t really listen very well when we told them to sit down in the canoe. Each time they would put their arms out the canoe to splash the water they would shift us to one side. Vivi stood up in defiance despite our pleas to sit. It made us a bit nervous that they were going to cause the canoe to flip over. So we did a quick loop and returned to shore. Our 5 year old son did well and followed the directions that we gave. I guess it wouldn’t be such a big deal if we didn’t have our keys and phones in our pockets.
Laser Tag
Across the field there were some camouflage single tents that were used for players to hide or duck into or use for cover against your opponents. We all had a blast in several games.
Depending on the number of players games and skill level the games could last a few minutes to 10 minutes.
Corban took advantage of going inside the tent to find his opponent lurking through the trees. Can you imagine doing this activity at your next event? The staff was super-friendly and got into the game with us too.
Fishing
The staff prepared the hooks with some eye candy bait ready for anyone to drop a line off the dock or off the shore. This went well for anybody who wanted to introduce fishing to all ages to get started in learning how to catch and release.
Mobile Restrooms
This was available and I just thought it was very thoughtful and convenient.
Quality Recreation
The staff brought enough activities for multiple types of people of all ages to use. From balls to frisbee. There was plenty of room and to play a leisure game of corn hole. These type of events are wonderful activities for my children to enjoy and there is a variety of them to quickly try just in one location. Kids can lose interest quickly at such a young age. Looking forward to the next one and hopefully it will be a great meetup for our families to enjoy too.
