Magnolia Ann By Adrienne Balkum
It is a 6×6 watercolor where I used Master’s Touch watercolor paint on acid free paper. The pad that I purchased only has 12 sheets for $2.99 that I picked up from Hobby Lobby.
For this piece I sketched out a Magnolia Ann with a pencil. With a fan brush I brushed with clear water only the petal that I planned on painting. Then I painted the light colors first with my round brush and gradually painted the darker purples. Taking the fan brush again and painting with clear water another petal that was one petal away from where I just painted or the opposite end. I figured it would be best to not cross the colors. Watercolor stays within it’s wetted area. Kinda like a border. Once I started blending with my darker colors I wanted to challenge myself with another brush technique to add veins. As well as the little details of the yellow bud center or “anther”.
I really love how it turned out and immediately framed it. There really is not a blushing story behind this art piece other than I do love the fragrant elegant flower.
If it is light, leave it white.
