Harbor Lights Cruise on Lake Ray Hubbard

Rockwall Harbor District – Unwind on a sunset cruise on Lake Ray Hubbard, Rockwall, Texas on a double deck boat. My friend and I easily booked our tickets with DFW Boat Ride’s website for an affordable rate between $35 to $40 for a single adult ticket. There is an easy to read calendar of dates to choose from and to select your cruise on DFWBoatRide.com. Prices may vary for children, military, adults and/or tour dates.

The boat operators request for you to sign a waiver and they send periodic text messages prior to arrival such as traffic updates. Parking at the Rockwall Harbor District can be cumbersome. Especially during peak season. Below is a Google Map (Figure 1) that I added to show where to park in case you can’t find parking around the restaurants and shops. Use the free public parking garage or parking lots near the Cinemark. Give yourself 15 minutes for a brisk walk to the DFW Boat Ride Dock which is on the left of the Harbor Lighthouse Tower. At the boat dock, there will be a crew member awaiting to check your reservation with your identification for each passenger.

What to Wear On A Sunset Cruise?

Photo Credit: Melody Osorio | Adrienne Balkum on the Harbor Lights

Definitely wear your shades if you plan to take this ride. I wore a black Clearwater Mixed Material Surplice Blouse by 41 HAWTHORN and a colorful comfortable Callahan Knit Short by LILLY PULITZER. Sandals, flip flops, canvas shoes, tennis shoes or a wooden heel are good suggestions. Stiletto heels are not recommended. Wear something light, flowy and most importantly comfortable for you to relax in.

Meet The Captain and the Crew

Crew member Teresa welcomes passengers aboard, mingles and she gets people in the mood to dance. This lovely lady is a dancing jitterbug! She knows how to do the cupid shuffle to pop bollywood line dancing.

Crew member Fernando provides FREE Coke, Diet Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite, Cranberry juice, water, and cups of ice on all cruises. You may find him on the enclosed main deck.

Captain Phil launches right on schedule to your ticket departure time–so don’t be late. 25 minutes prior to departure the crew will allow passengers on board to pick a bench on the top deck or ride in the enclosed main deck with tables and chairs. The Captain does his safety instructions over a PA system prior to departure which you will learn that there are more life-jackets on board than required. Smoking and vaping prohibited.

DFW Boat Ride’s Lake Ray Hubbard fleet includes the double deck crewed motor vessels, Harbor Lights and Sapphire Moon, offering scenic public boat rides and private boat rental for up to 90 people for any occasion. Harbor Lights is a 57-foot double deck power captained and crewed boat ride with a climate controlled (AC and Heat) enclosed main deck and a large upper deck open to the sky and stars. Sapphire Moon is a 52′ double deck open-air boat with premium VIP lounge style seating on the lower deck and generous upper deck, with a total capacity of 49 people. There is one restroom on each boat’s main deck. Only experienced, mature licensed captains and crew are hired to keep passengers safe on the water.

A variety of music is played during the public cruise tour on Lake Ray Hubbard for 1.5 hours and Captain Phil will offer some fun facts about our beautiful lake.

Food Recommendations

Insulated cooler bags to carry your picnic or small coolers are welcome aboard. Charcuterie board or a grazing station would probably be better in the climate controlled enclosed main deck. The Texas heat may be a bit much on the chocolates and/or cheeses if you were to serve it on the upper deck.

When planning your food provisions think about mess-free finger foods. Small sandwiches, sandwich wraps, paninis, skewers, fruits, raw vegetables, trail mix, muffins and/or pie. Pack napkins, eating utensils, paper cups, dipping cups with lids and/or kitchen towel. If you would rather do a curbside pick up on the way, I recommend Jason’s Deli.

If you are looking for a place to eat before your sunset cruise, I’d recommend both Giovanni and the Oar House.

Beverages

Harbor Lights and Sapphire Moon provide FREE Coke, Diet Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite, Cranberry juice, water, and cups of ice on all cruises. Beverage selection might change.

Bring your preferred wine or beer on board. I would recommend Blanc du Bois (dry) by Rosini Vineyards. or the Symphony by Rosini Vineyards.

Scenic Sunsets

For date night, me time, friends gathering or family fun! The Harbor Rockwall is a stunning Mediterranean-style boardwalk featuring excellent dining and entertainment. Our stunning lakeside community location makes it easy to learn how to sail, enjoy a fishing excursion, rent a boat or jet ski. There is just something special about being on the water at sunset. Captain Phil has perfectly timed his tours to arrive at the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard by the Lighthouse Tower, just as the sun is dipping to the horizon creating the perfect photo opportunities. The one thing you do not want to forget is your camera! Cruises are available on select dates throughout the year so it isn’t too late to take a sunset cruise! See a few of the photos below and video that I captured. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Please do leave a comment of your experience, picnic recommendations and/or share your lifestyle photos on Harbor Lights. Thank you for reading!
