Red Elegance Watercolor 9x12 By Adrienne Balkum

It is a 9×12 watercolor where I used Master’s Touch watercolor paint on acid free paper. The pad that I purchased only has 12 sheets for $6.99 that I picked up from Hobby Lobby.

Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums. There is no one way to do it. It’s meant to be radical. I am a little rusty, but I’m going to challenge myself to work on some more ideas. I really want to master some blending.

Anyone could really pick this up and it can be an affordable hobby. The paints alone cost me about $14.00 for a set of 24. I bought a variety pack of brushes for like $5.00. Featured on my plate is the round brush my new favorite brush.

A couple of key things to remember is that not every surface is good. So it is a good idea to purchase paperstock that is meant for watercolor paint. Paper has a funny way of not just absorbing but sucking the paint. When you are trying to blend a color to another it does not transition well. Save yourself the hassle and buy good paper. Watercolors are meant to be framed in glass. So also keep that in mind how you would like your finished masterpiece to be presented.
