I have changed my eating habits to eat one meal a day (OMAD). I’m not the type to count calories or weigh food nor do I have any desire to get that technical. I just want to eat and drink what I want. Preferably what I choose to consume would actually taste delicious.
This is my third week in and I don’t believe this is for everyone. I am thankful that my husband Jason has had major success with fasting so I know that this could work to reach what I hope to achieve. After my twin girls birth, this one area above my belly button just will not go away. It’s this pooch that pisses me off that it makes me feel that I still look like I’m carrying another child. I listened how breastfeeding will help you lose weight gained during pregnancy. Well, I breastfed thirteen (13) months for ALL three of my children and maybe it helped to a degree. But it sure as heck is still there!
There are many bold and beautiful women who embraced the extra love handles. However, I personally don’t on my body. I don’t like the aches and pain of carrying extra weight or the headaches or the cravings. So I made some strict rules for myself or my boundaries of how I am going to get rid of this gut and hopefully along the way any extra fat.
Yes, I have done Keto for a time. I had problems looking at the clock and having multiple meals prepared for each sitting and if there was a craving…I would break out the olives. I just don’t want the stress and hassle of all that. I already make meals for my kids as well as managing other things. Plus, my darling husband would preach constantly about intermittent fasting. How it was the only thing that really worked for him and he was more willing to go OMAD with me. So here we are.
What are the benefits of OMAD?
I’m still learning the benefits. A bit of an unexpected surprise is my finger nail growth and that they are not breaking. Fasting puts my body into a fat burning state. When my body needs energy it has no other choice, but to burn fat. It goes to the sugar storage and then it goes to fat storage to turn that into energy. I’m mindfully eating good healthy meals and I certainly treat myself with a dessert. Which I will share below some of my favorites. At first, I was measuring daily my waistline and then I started putting on my clothes that I knew were running tight last month and I noticed they are not now. In my new 2022 journal that I kicked off, I am adding my weekly measurements to it to celebrate my progress over the next 12 months. My husband and I share a mutual love for cooking and we talk about preparing the meals which is effecting us as a couple. There is a ton of videos from a natural health doctor, Dr. Nick Zyrowski. You can hear his personal story of why he became a natural wellness doctor when his little brother (4 years old) passed away from malpractice. He wants to help people find hope when there is none.
My Boundary
• First drink at 5am is ice cold water.
• Coffee with milk or whipping cream. Just simple French Press coffee. No whip cream topping.
• Eat only within a two hour window. For example: 1pm to 3pm.
• Drink water throughout the day in a travel mug or clear glass.
• No candy of any kind.
• One margarita OR one cocktail OR one glass of wine per meal.
• No fast food.
• No sodas.

Smoked Fish Tacos

This curious combination of smoked fish and sweet slaw had us skeptical—until we tasted it.

SEASON 12 Fish Tacos and Steak Fajitas
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS
The smoked salmon taco at Ruddell’s Smokehouse in Cayucos, California, immediately won us over with its unbeatable combination of smoky fish, creamy mayonnaise-mustard sauce, and crunchy, fresh slaw all neatly packed in a tortilla. To prepare the salmon for smoking, we used a cure of brown sugar, salt, and garlic powder, which firms up the flesh and adds deep seasoning. We then smoked the salmon over indirect heat with a packet of wood chips. The result: sweet, smoky, and tender salmon. Adding an apricot glaze gave the salmon a sticky, faintly sweet coating that clung well, even after flaking the salmon into a taco. Mimicking Ruddell’s unique slaw, we tossed together chopped apple, chopped celery, and shredded carrot. We took the same tack with the sauce—a combination of 1 part spicy brown mustard to 2 parts mayonnaise. The resulting taco was a smash hit.

Some other entrees we enjoyed are: Prime Rib, Brown Sugar Baked Chicken, Homemade Fried Chicken, Vegetable Chicken Lo Mein and Beef Fajitas. Many of the dishes, we added two side vegetables like: glazed carrots, broccoli, mixed steamed vegetables, sweet potato casserole, baked potato with trimmings. For desert we made a cheesecake. More pies to come.
Most of the entrees become leftovers and are eaten throughout the week. So we probably make 2 to 3 meals a week. Most of the vegetables are steamed in the microwave. We have one slice of dessert.
So far things are going well and I hope it gets better.
