For those in Rockwall County, this is the updated map with 26 Precincts. I personally increased the size of the numbers on this map to improve the readability. Our population has grown and nine precincts were added to meet the voting act requirements. The Rockwall County Commissioners court approved of the new mapping on December 10, 2021.

How Do I Become a Precinct Chair in Rockwall County?

Find your Precinct on the new map and make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. Read the Republican Party of Texas PRECINCT CHAIR HANDBOOK. Your duties include helping run the elections in your precinct, grow the Republican party, blockwalk, getting out the vote for Republicans during election season, participate in conventions, become a delegate and contribute to the County executive committee meetings, deliberations and votes.

The executive committee of the Rockwall County GOP voted for those that are listed on their website. You may find it on an excel spreadsheet on their website or you may have been informed at recent events. However, these Precinct Chairs were not listed on an election ballot. The County Chair for Rockwall County is Sharon Henson and she was appointed as the County Chair in June 2021. Each of them still have to file. Contested races will be listed on the ballot. I’m sharing this so that you do not feel discouraged to file if anyone states that position is filled already. The term of office is for 2 years.

What If The Position Is Not Available?

I’m finding that many GOPs do not inform voters of these opportunities, because they want to control who the precinct chairs are and avoid the election process. They are required to accept the application. The County Chair will have to review the application to make sure that you meet the eligibility requirements and that you are in the appropriate precinct. If it is rejected they must do so in writing. The County Chair must make a decision on the Precinct Chair application and must enter that information into the 2022 County and Precinct Chair Candidate Filing System

Election Advisory No. 2021-22

November 23, 2021 Letter from Keith Ingram, Director of Elections to Election Officials: Due to delays in the U.S. Census Bureau releasing 2020 Census data to the States for redistricting purposes, the timeline for undertaking redistricting in Texas was modified this year. To accommodate the new redistricting schedule, Senate Bill 13 (87th Leg., 2d C.S., 2021) established dates for the candidate-filing period, general primary election, and primary runoff election for the 2022 election cycle based on when legislative redistricting plans became law.
