In preparation for my daughters birthday I decided to check out some Pinterest ideas to create some mini cakes. I found one that looked so pretty and I followed the steps and thought this would be great to share with my readers by documenting the blessed experience.

Mine ended up as a frosted mess. There are plenty of fantastic bloggers out there and my hats off to all of you who include the best tips, unfortunately I must have missed how to frost the cake smoothly. Please do read on how I did to make it a piece of cake.

I can’t seem to decorate a cupcake and I’m artistic. Comment below if that is you so I know that I am not alone.

Items Used:

• German Chocolate Cake Mix
• Strawberry Jam
• Frosting
Wilton All-In-One Disposable Decorating Bags with Tips, 6-Count
• Baking Sheet
• Cookie Cutter
• Frosting Palette knife

BAKE ONE LAYER OF CAKE IN HALF SHEET PAN

After I mixed the cake and watched it like a hawk. About 16 minutes later, I took it out of the oven to cool. It’s important to watch it so it doesn’t burn. Once it cooled completely, I used the cookie cutter to cut the cake rounds and placed the first layer on the plate with the Flat Palette Knife.

FOR FILLED IN CAKES

Next, I put the frosting into the decorating bag and made one ring.

FILL IN WITH STRAWBERRY JAM

Spooned some jam and dripped into the center for it to be even with the frosting ring.

ADD ANOTHER LAYER

I placed the second layer on top and proceeded to frost the cake. The frosting just wasn’t smooth at all. It tore the cake apart. Then I just gave up by cutting down the middle with cake palette knife.

DO WHAT YOU CAN DO

It’s my daughter’s birthday so I took the remaining rounds and used the decorative tip on my frosting bag to make a nice little rose of frosting. Placed the candle in it and sprinkled the confetti on top. I did put it in the freezer and then pull them out 10 minutes before serving. Added a scoop of Blue Bell strawberry ice cream on the side.

My kids said that it was the best cake ever, delicious and that it was beautiful!
