A Little Bird Told Me! By Adrienne Balkum

“A Little Bird Told Me” is a 8×8 construction paper art. I was inspired by seeing shadowbox type artwork or solid white color shells.

This project took some patience to cut out all of the items to form the scene. Essentially that is what I was trying to convey. A moment in time. Two blue birds sharing a few tweets in heavily berried tree on a bright and warm sunny day.

I first drew the shape of a bird from blue construction paper. Then I cut out two birds shapes. I used the shape of the bird on white construction paper to create the belly. I glued the white belly on top of the blue bird. I drew the white cheek out and snipped it to where it would fit just right on the bird’s head. Then I glued it.

Then I cut out of the green construction paper tree limbs. The tree limbs were placed on the yellow construction paper of where I wanted them to go. I did try to layer it for some depth.

I used a handheld hole puncher on the red construction paper. After gluing the limbs inside the yellow square. The birds were glued down as well. With a black pen I added some feet and other distinguishing marks on the body. Added an eye on each bird.

The red holes were glued to form clusters of red berries.

Originally this was a project that I tried to do with my kids. Gluing and hole punching was their only interest in it.

I am very happy how the framing turned out with the matting to add a bit of depth. It is one of the first pieces that I was able to add to my gallery wall that I am trying to curate with my own art.
