On May 12, 2025, Rockwall Independent School District (RISD) celebrated Jim White’s retirement after 12 years as a Board of Trustee. Elected in 2013, Jim served four terms with unwavering dedication. For example, he attended 204 board meetings and contributed 246 volunteer hours. The RISD community sincerely thanks him for his loyal service to students, parents, and staff.

Recognition of Service
Jim, a Rockwall native, attended RISD schools from 8th grade and graduated from Rockwall High School in 1988. He played football on scholarship at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, while earning his degree. Currently, Jim serves as National Fleet Account Executive for Bridgestone Firestone’s Truck Tire Division, a role he has held for over 20 years. Moreover, he actively participates in the Rockwall Education Foundation, Republican Men’s Club, Rockwall Republican Party, and Truckers Against Trafficking.
During his tenure, Jim significantly impacted RISD. He served as Board Secretary in 2016 and from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he participated in 44 graduation ceremonies and shook hands with over 14,000 seniors. The district grew from 14,359 to 19,241 students under his oversight. For instance, RISD opened four elementary schools, one middle school, two ninth-grade campuses, and a college and career academy.
A Retirement Celebration
Notably, Jim engaged with the community, even on challenging platforms like social media. He addressed critics thoughtfully and embraced uncomfortable conversations. This openness built trust and strengthened RISD’s community ties.

The retirement celebration highlighted Jim’s legacy. Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal shared warm farewells and lighthearted stories, delighting attendees. A Rockwall coach presented Jim with a football helmet signed by players, honoring his athletic roots. Furthermore, former Board President Jon Bailey and all current trustees attended to celebrate their colleague’s service.
Notable Moment

Several elected officials joined to thank Jim for his contributions. However, a notable moment sparked mixed reactions. John Vick, District Director for Senator Bob Hall, presented a flag flown over the Texas Capitol on May 3, 2025. Jim appreciated the gesture. Yet, some attendees felt its tie to a controversial legislative event was unsuitable for the occasion.
Jim White’s commitment to education will endure in Rockwall ISD. His legacy of growth, integrity, and service inspires us all. Therefore, the RISD community wishes him well in his future endeavors. To honor Jim, we invite you to share your favorite memories of his service. Please write your stories below in the comments. Or by emailing me I would love to hear from you.

As Jim’s mother, thank you for this article, and for attending. I was proud of Jim for occasionally voting alone on issues – such as C Scope, aka the Texas version of Common Core. It was eventually voted OUT by our legislature. He served with conviction and integrity.
