Does your laundry area feel mostly forgotten and boring? It doesn’t have to stay like that. Below are some tips to improve the functionality and aesthetics of your home’s laundry room!
Install More Storage
In many homes, the laundry room is little more than a cramped, square space tucked away in the corner or basement with only the bare necessities. Adding or retrofitting cabinets is an excellent tip to improve the functionality and aesthetics of your home’s laundry room.
Even simple changes like adding laundry bins inside the cabinets can do wonders to keep your laundry room more organized. It’ll be more pleasing to look at instead of having a mess of clothes and laundry supplies. Small storage additions like wall hooks and floating shelves are also convenient for keeping supplies and hanging dirty or drying clothes.
Keep Air Fresheners Handy
As many of us know, the laundry space is often not the most lovely room in the home for fragrances. Not only are dirty clothes, towels, and linens constantly circling through the room and resting in hampers, but the harsh smells of detergent and cleaning supplies like bleach can also make it an unpleasant space for the nose.
That’s why the laundry room is one of the many places in a home that needs air fresheners! Having bottles of air freshener handy when you have an exceptionally smelly load of dirty clothes or have just used bleach will keep your laundry room from becoming a gathering place for foul, lingering scents.
Add a Folding and Ironing Station
Once the clothes are washed and dried, it’s time to fold them for storage or iron out any leftover wrinkles or creases. However, lugging dirty clothes and linens to and from the laundry room for folding or ironing can be annoying, so consider adding a folding or ironing station.
Even if your laundry room is short on space, installing a wall-mounted ironing board in the laundry room is easy and exceptionally convenient for ironing and folding laundry. With a folding and ironing station, you can get all your laundry work done in the laundry room!
Hide the Washer and Dryer
While the washer and dryer are integral to the laundry room, they often clash with the rest of the interior décor and can often be exceptionally noisy. One way to get around having to look at the washer and dryer all the time and lessen the noise of the machines is to hide them behind a covering or door.
Something as simple as installing curtains above the machines can dramatically improve the décor of the laundry room. Or, if the washer and dryer are in a closet, installing a sliding barn door is an excellent way to incorporate a farmhouse aesthetic into the space and make the machines much quieter. With some simple changes, your laundry room can go from a forgotten or ignored space to one of your favorite areas in your home!
